Band Central Storage

Band Central Storage keeps your band's files — chord charts, PDFs, images, and audio — in the cloud, attached to your songs. Attach a file once and every member of the band gets it on their devices automatically, without anyone passing files around before rehearsal.

What it does

Without cloud storage, a file you attach to a song lives only on the device that attached it — your bandmates see the song, but not the chart. With Band Central Storage on, attaching a document or audio file uploads it to your band's storage, and it appears on every member's devices automatically. Songs, setlists, and lyrics have always synced; this brings the attached files along too.

Turning it on

Band Central Storage is a band-wide setting that only the band owner can change, in the band's Settings. When the owner turns it on, it is on for everyone in the band. New bands start with it on. Bands created before the feature existed start with it off, so nothing changes about them until their owner decides.

Attaching files to songs

Attach a chart or audio file to a song the same way as always — from the lyric view or the song's menu, choosing a file from your device or from Dropbox. With storage on, the upload happens automatically as part of the attach, with progress shown as it uploads. Your bandmates do not have to do anything: the file appears on their devices, downloading when they open the song or all at once with Download all files.

The Files view

Songs menu → Files lists every document and audio file in the band and shows where each one lives: Band Central, Dropbox, or only on this device. If a file is not reachable — moved, renamed, or never uploaded — the Files view flags it and lets you repair it on the spot by pointing it at the right file.

Moving your existing files to the cloud

If your band has been attaching files for a while, they are scattered across devices and Dropbox. Migrate to Cloud Storage (in the Files view) finds every file not yet in Band Central and moves them up in one pass, with per-file progress. You can stop it at any time and pick up where you left off later. Files it cannot find on your device are listed so you can locate them individually.

Setting up a new device

On a fresh install, Band Central notices your band's files are not on the device yet and offers to fetch them. Download all files pulls the whole library down in one go — do this on home wifi before a gig so nothing depends on the venue connection. If you skip it, files still download one at a time as you open songs.

Dropbox and Band Central Storage together

You do not have to choose. A file imported from Dropbox stays connected to Dropbox — Update Dropbox Files keeps tracking new revisions — and is also stored in Band Central so bandmates without Dropbox access get it too. Band Central Storage is additive: it never removes or changes anything in your Dropbox.

Storage limits

Each plan includes a storage allowance for the band, and a per-file size limit. The band owner can see how much is used in Settings. If an upload will not fit — the file is over the per-file limit, or the band is out of space — Band Central says so clearly at the moment you attach, and the file stays safely on your device. See Plans & Subscriptions for what each plan includes.
