Shared Songs

When you share songs from one band you own to another, Band Central keeps the two copies linked: edit either one and the other updates. This page shows how to see every shared song, tell which band it came from, and disconnect songs so each band can edit its own copy.

How shared songs stay in sync

Use Share on the Songs page to copy songs (and your own lyrics) into another band you own — see Bands & Members. Each copy stays linked to the song it came from. When you edit a shared song, the song details show a ticked box, Also update the shared copy in <band> (or Also update the original in <band> for a song that was shared into this band). Saving with it ticked sends your change to the other band too.

Unticking that box skips the other band for that one save only. The songs are still linked, and the box is ticked again the next time you open the song. To keep the copies separate for good, disconnect them (below).

See every shared song

On the website, open the Songs page and choose More > Shared songs... The option only appears when the band has shared songs. The Songs page More menu in Band Central with the Shared songs optionMore > Shared songs... on the Songs page.

Which band did a song come from?

Each song in the list says which way it was shared:
  • From <band> — a copy that was shared into this band from another band.
  • To <band> — this band holds the original, and it was shared out to that band.
  • From <band>, also to <band> — a copy that was then shared on to a third band.
If the band has songs going both ways, the list has two tabs, From other bands and To other bands. If the songs involve more than one other band, chips at the top let you show one band at a time. The Shared songs list in Band Central with From other bands and To other bands tabs, each song labelled with the band it came fromThe Shared songs list. Each row says which band the song came from or went to.

Disconnect shared songs

  1. In the Shared songs list, tick the songs you want to separate, or use Select all (it selects only the songs showing in the current tab and band).
  2. Click Disconnect selected, or Disconnect on a single row.
  3. Confirm. The message names the other band, so you know exactly which links you are breaking.
Disconnecting does not delete anything. Both bands keep their own copy of the song and its lyrics; they just stop updating each other. There is no way to delete a song from the other band from here — to remove a song from a band, switch to that band and delete it there.

Disconnect one song from its details

You can also disconnect a single song while you are editing it. Open the song, and under the Also update... box choose Stop syncing..., then confirm. The song details dialog in Band Central with the Also update the original box and the Stop syncing optionStop syncing... in the song details disconnects just this song.

In the iPhone, iPad, and Android apps

The apps can disconnect a shared song one at a time with Disconnect Shared Song on the song. To see all shared songs and disconnect many at once, use the website.
